MITS holds a series of Professional Development Seminars for museum educators each winter to keep them up to date on current classroom teaching practices and provide assistance in implementing the Massachusetts Frameworks for Math and Science and PALMS principles and methods.

WHO

All museum educators, administrators, exhibits staff, and public and school librarians in the state are invited.

WHY

Changes are continuing in Massachusetts classrooms. If you work with schools through tours, teacher workshops, kits, or other outreach, you need to know about PALMS (science and math) and the frameworks for the other disciplines. Art and history museum staffs are encouraged to attend, as this will provide a preview of what is in the Massachusetts Frameworks for your disciplines.

WHAT

You know the content of your discipline. The purpose of these seminars is to:

• Provide knowledge abou the current theories of learning and practice in applying it.
• Explore equity issues for museums.
• Examine interdisciplinary programming with an emphasis on integrating science, mathematics, social studies, art and language arts.
• Share your expertise with your professional colleagues.

The Massachusetts frameworks in science, math, art, language arts and social studies are now released and will be used throughout the seminar. With the new frameworks, art and history museums will need to address these issues in planning their school programming. These educators are urged to attend. Please acquire and bring Massachusetts Frameworks for your discipline, and for science and math if possible. If you have Internet access, they can be downloaded and printed from the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks area of the Massachusetts Department of Education Online Service.

COST

$25 per day, or $100 for all five days. Purchase orders accepted. Directions will be sent with your registration confirmation.
