| Doing Research at the AI Lab |
|
Most of what you will learn at the lab will revolve around research. There are some required classes and exams, but these are insignificant when compared to your thesis research. Since it will be the focus of your life for a long time, it is important to choose a project that you will enjoy. However, you shouldn't worry too much; you can always change your research focus and/or advisor after you complete your MS thesis. To help you start to think about what you'd like to do at the lab, check out our current lab projects and research abstracts written by lab members in September 2001. A working paper on doing research in the lab was written many years ago, but still quite relevant. You may also want to look at some of the theses written by AI Lab students. Once you arrive at the lab, you should talk to lots of students and faculty members about the research that is going on in their groups. There is no substitute for interacting with other lab members to find out about current research. Later, when you're considering your Ph.D. and a research career beyond, you may find these research career resources helpful. Sidenote to current members of the lab: These pages are in constant need of updating and correction. In particular it is important that they don't just represent my opinions. So please, e-mail us at jrennie and aoh or just change the pages if you see something that needs "help."
