- Observations:
- Receptive fields develop gradually, but in some animals are present birth
- Adaptation is necessary
- But must work with “simple” inputs
- There is a layered representation going from the retina to cortex
- Receptive fields grow more complex going up the hierarchy
- Receptive fields are organized “retinotopically”
