Office Chair Long Jump
The Concept
The chair race this year will be a variant of the "long jump". Seated in
the chair, competitors will propel themselves down a runway with their feet.
When the get to the end of the runway, they will stop propelling
themselves and coast to a stop. The distance of their "jump" will become
their score.
The Rules
- Each competitor will have two chances to compete, with the longer
distance counting for the final rankings.
- Each competitor must have his or her rear firmly planted in the
seat of the chair at all times. Locomotion may be provided in
any manner (with the exception of other people) so long as this
rule is observed.
- Distance is measured from the end of the runway, which will be
marked with a piece of tape, to the wheel of the chair which is
furthest back.
- Each competitor is allowed a single "fault" per run. Faults
include: touching the ground once the chair has passed the
line, tipping over the chair on the runway, or hitting a wall
on the runway. Note that once a chair has passed the end of
the runway, it is no longer a fault.
- The chairs will be selected by the commissioner, and will
hopefully be of the same five-legged variety we've used in the
past few years.
- Helmets are optional.
- Each team will recieve one point for each participant plus 5
points for the first place time, 4 points for the second, and
so on, for the best five times.
- In the event of broken chairs, bad timing, reckless behavior,
or natural disasters, the judgment of the commissioner will
prevail.
