Olympic Scavenged Photos

Love Peace Plenty
1) As a warm up, picture yourselves with an outdoor sculpture
2) A picture in an undergrad dorm (or ILG) room
3) Use your bodies to spell out something (AI? 1984?)
4) Door labeled "Tropic Of Calculus" or "Department of Alchemy"
5) Somewhere in MIT stands an apple tree which is the direct descendant of the tree under which Newton sat when an apple dropped on his head and the rest became history...
6) Take a picture with a (real, biological) big brother
7) A picture in a candy factory, with some kind of candy manufacturingclearly visible.
8) The greatest fear of anyone in Edgerton is that something will go wrong with the Nuclear reactor, causing the aforementioned candy factory to explode, resulting in an unbearably sweet smell that will last for months. Go make sure that everything is OK inside the reactor.
9) Double-shot tall latte with non-fat milk? Make an espresso drink at a coffee-shop.
10) Find a house, office or room numbered 1984, or perhaps a 1984 licenseplate.
11) Big Brother is watching you. Get yourselves pictured in a security room with lots of screens displaying security cameras.
12) I know they are hiding around here somewhere. Get your picture taken with a Nobel Laureate.
13) Take a picture of your team playing a game on a working 6502-based computer.
14) Sit on the bench around a Cray computer.
15) Miniplenty
16) Minilove
17) Minipeace
18) Minitrue
19) Mr. Carrington's shop
20) The room above the shop
21) O'Brien teaching doublethink in the 'torture room'

The Big Brother judges (aka 3rd floor theory folks and roommates) say:

In the "Miniplenty" category, first place goes to the Ministry of Plenty (cashier's office), second place to Ministry of Peace (W20 basement refrigerator), third place to Ministry of Love (Office of
Campus Dining).

In the "Miniluv" category, all Ministries tied for first place for their Campus Police HQ photos.

In the "Minipax" category, first place goes to the Ministry of Love for their Draper Lab photo, second place to the Ministry of Peace for Assassin's Guild, and infinitieth place (zero points) to the Ministry
of Plenty for Winston Flowers. Big Brother is not amused by double-irony.

In the "Minitrue" category, first place goes to the Ministry of Love for Tech Talk (official institution propaganda machine), second place to the Ministry of Peace for The Tech (unofficial institution propaganda machine), and infinitieth place (zero points) to the Ministry of Plenty for some nonsensical picture of lots of books.

In the "Mr. Carrington's Shop" category, first place goes to Ministry of Peace for a genuine MIT-style knick-knack room. The Ministries of Plenty and Love tied for second place, since their pictures were both taken in the same junk shop.

In the "Room Above the Shop" category, first place goes to Ministry of Love for Athena (where do you get love??), second place to Ministry of Peace for the upstairs Barker stacks (where more physical love is rumored to be found), and infinitieth place to Ministry of Plenty for another worthless picture in the same damn junk shop.

The "MIT Parallel of O'Brien and take a picture of him teaching your team the techniques of doublethink in the 'torture room'" category caused fierce debate among the judges. We finally rested upon a tie for first place between the Ministry of Plenty for their horrific picture of the Walker Memorial test room, and the Ministry of Peace for their (in one judge's personal experience, anyway) equally horrific picture of a certain AI lab staff member. Second place goes to Ministry of Love for their group-hug with the enemy, a Campus Police officer. Rounding the category out, third place goes to Ministry of Truth for a confusing yet oddly alluring picture of... well, we're not exactly sure.

Most Amusing Photo goes to... the Ministry of Plenty for their shop photo, specifically for Nati's amorous displays toward the torso of a mannequin.

Most Original Photo goes to... the Ministry of Plenty for their Walker Memorial photo. It brought chills down our spines.

Most 1984 Photo goes to... the Ministry of Plenty for their closed-circuit security photo at Star Market. Ironically, this photo earned zero points in the category for which it was intended.

And finally, Best Theme goes to... the Ministry of Truth, for their consistent theme of absenteeism.

The following pictures were not awarded points in their category:

The scoring of the Photo Scavenger Hunt is as follows:

Plenty: 2119 points (1240 from the first 14 treasures, 279 points from the creative treasures, and 600 bonus points).
Love: 1421 points (882 from the first 14, and 539 from creative ones)
Peace: 1103 points (522 from first 14, and 581 from creative ones)
Truth: 228 points (12 from first 14, 16 from creative, and 200 bonus)
