No Free Lunch Blues

Lyrics by Carl de Marken (1996)

This is sung ad-lib to 12 bar blues. (A sample melody and bass line are available, though simpler renditions may make it easier to understand the words depending on the vocalist.)

It came noon, monday mornin', ma wallet's nowhere to be found
the food truck lady she said, I'd have to pickup of the ground
  I got the cant-find-the-cash, food-in-a-flash, cat-and-rat-hash
                                                      NO-FREE-LUNCH-BLUES.

I waited all tuesday mornin' for the faculty lunch to be over
when that cruel brown brown door opened, they'd left us 3 sprigs of clover
  I got the pullin-my-hair eatin-my-chair aint-no-food-there
                                                      NO-FREE-LUNCH-BLUES.

I wrote code wednesday mornin', needed stock to buy low and sell high
Wolpert said it was equally bad, that nothing I'd done would fly
  I got the all-outa-joint cant-hit-the-point hermitian-adjoin
                                                      NO-FREE-LUNCH-BLUES.

I woke up, thursday mornin', my cruel stomach was making me balk
when I went in to the playroom, I starved all thru the talk
  I got the Rod-killed-the-snack off-tenure-track cant-catch-no-slack
                                                      NO-FREE-LUNCH-BLUES.

I came in, friday mornin', I hadn't eaten a bit all week
see 29 boxes of pizza all bought by an anchovies freak
  I got the whats-with-Isbell Stefanis-is-hell cant-take-GSL
                                                      NO-FREE-LUNCH-BLUES.
