The Thesis Drift Blues

written by Charles Isbell

music: the standard 12-bar blues

When I woke up this morning
I was feelin' kinda low
I've been here 'bout ten years
and I got 'bout ten years to go
I was cryin' and moanin'
'cause I don't know what to do
I got a real bad case
or these low-down, thesis drift blues
I got the thesis drift blues
I got the thesis drift blues

I was standin' at the printer
when de Marken comes from behind
He says, "That's a nice idea Charles,
but Dijkstra did it back in 1969"
I said, "thanks but I gotta go,
I got me a meeting about two"
But when I got to my advisor's office
He said, "Excuse me but who are you?"
I got the thesis drift blues
I got the thesis drift blues

Well, I was feelin' kinda low
so I went to see Oded
Thought he might be workin'
But you know he was surfin' the web
He had a glazed look in his eye
when he said with perfect calm,
"I've found the perfect site:
www-dot-suck-dot-com"
I got the thesis drift blues
I got the thesis drift blues

harmonica solo

I left from there
Thought I'd go see Rocky
But she had a sign on her door
that read "Off Playin' Hockey"
I looked at every door on the floor
You know they all said the same
So I shrugged my shoulders
Gave on up and went to see the game
I got the thesis drift blues
I got the thesis drift blues

I think I run twenty mailing lists
I got a web server or three
What about my research?
Oh, I'm buildin' Cog's knee
You know I went to see these guys here
to ask them for a hand
I think it took 'em all of two minutes
before they said "Hey let's start a band!"
We got the thesis drift blues
We got the thesis drift blues

guitar solo: hit it Sandy! (two times)

I've been here too long yall
and I ain't lyin' 'bout that
When I first got to Tech Square
they called it Project Mac
I gotta graduate soon yall
I gotta do it for me
So somebody please tell me
Why am I singing blues over IAP?
I got the thesis drift blues
I got the thesis drift blues

The band takes it home
