Notes:
We are very excited about the possibility of building such a system, for a variety of reasons. We think that being able to view sporting events, or even cultural events in this way will lead to very unique and enjoyable system. And we think that it will be very visible to the general public.
We also think that we will be able to build this system, because of our extensive and cutting-edge technology in all the key aspects of the system: real time tracking of multiple moving objects, calibration of large numbers of distributed cameras, intelligent systems that recognize actions and events, and systems that archive and retrieve visual information.
Finally, the opportunities that will open up given such a VVR system are also exciting -- studying human motions, generating synthetic examples of motions, using such analyses to understand motor control and social interactions.
