The HotSauce/ProjectX PlugIn has an outline mode that works in exactly
this way.
See:
http://hotsauce.apple.com/
The twist-downs are instant; they don't require communication with the
server.

If you haven't played with HotSauce, do so! It's extremely cool. It's a
user interface for 3D (or alternatively, outline) browsing of information
spaces. It's a perfect fit for CL-HTTP because it's not a CGI; it's just a
(cross-platform) browser plugin plus a download of an MCF (meta-content
format) data stream. CL-HTTP could generate MCF on-the fly. Real-time
3D class browsers on the web, for example.

Also check out Apple's NetFinder:
http://cybertech.apple.com/netfinder.html
It makes a Finder-like interface to files served by WebStar but it doesn't
actually do the triangle thing. It's more like an FTP interface without an
FTP demon. And since it's a CGI, it's less interesting
to CL-HTTP users, but it's still worth checking out.
