This is a fine idea. Many people with wintel laptops and disconnected
machines will certainly want to do exactly the same thing.

I'm not a PC specialist (yet), but you could look at the Mac Standalone
configuration as an example of the kinds of things to need to make
happen on your PC. See:

http://wilson.ai.mit.edu/cl-http/configure.html#apple-talk

There is also a draft document describing how to run standalone using
MacDNS at: http://wilson.ai.mit.edu/cl-http/configure-network-mac.html

1.The 127.0.0.0 network is assigned to standalone and loopback applications.
So, you network adddress would be 127.0.0.1. You will not have a domain name unless
there is some way to assign a mapping from this address to the domain name
on the PC analogous to the hosts file or by running a DNS server locally on your machine.

2. You will want to check the switches that turn off domain Name service
in the mac standalone confioguration and develop and analogous configuration
for the PC.

3. You will need to figure out how to make your machine operate
in a TCP loopback mode where TCP packets from the browser go to the server and
server packets come back. I'm not familiar with how this is done.

4. You will refer to your host by the IP address 127.0.0.1, unless
you arrange for domain name mapping somehow, in which case you can use
whatever domain name you assign it.

5. Finally, when you get this working to your satisfaction, please write
up the steps required to configure for standalone operation on your PC
and mail them along with your standalone configuration file to
mailto:bug-acl-cl-http@ai.mit.edu

There may be other people on mailto:www-cl@ai.mit.edu or mailto:bug-acl-cl-http@ai.mit.edu
who are familiar with standalone networking on the PC.
