The robots drive around like little tanks on their treads using a technique called skid steering. If the right and left sides both turn forward, the robot goes forward. If the right side turns forward while the left turns backwards, the robot will rotate clockwise. You can use different combinations of right and left speeds and directions to get the robots to move in any arc you wish.
The parts manufacter I bought the treads from calls it "miniature chain link" and it's the smallest sold in America. On the Ants, it's one of the largest mechanical parts. This type of situation was tpyical while building the robots, they would say "this is our very smallest" and I would say "way too big".
