- The 'sw*.*' files in Lab 2 are from the
so-called 'switchboard' corpus, and as such have a few new tags, modified
from the UPenn POS tags; see the change file here. You'll
have to figure out for yourself how to 'deal' with this difference.

(Yes, I don't like this either)

- Textbook Availability:
Jurafsky, the main text, is currently available at Quantum
Books; there are 16 copies in stock. Following tradition, the MIT
Coop has backordered this text, and should be getting it in by the second
week of February. You may also order it from Amazon, etc. In the
meantime, you can read my Notes 1 and Notes 2, especially Notes 2, which
covers most of the same material.- Please fill out this background questionnaire
and email back to ktkohl@ai.mit.edu
- Note to non-MIT students (and perhaps
even some MIT students):
I know. MIT wants to treat you like second-class citizens. In
order to use the Athena computers for this course, and also (eventually)
the Stellar website for MIT courses, you must two things. Getting a Stellar
account is easier, via the links referred to below (Stellar is part of
MIT's effort to open its courses to everyone.) When you get your stellar
account, you can go to the Stellar course website via this link: http://stellar.mit.edu/S/course/6/sp03/6.863j/.
The Stellar request form for all students: http://stellar.mit.edu/contact/userrequest.html. If you are an MIT registered student, this should already
be set up; just try the course link above. I will maintain
both websites - the one you are reading now - and the Stellar one, at least
for several weeks.
If you are a non-MIT student, to get an Athena
account, you must go to the Athena Accounts office, in building N42-140,
see map here.
Their office hours are M, W, F 2:00pm - 5:00pm and T, Th 9:00am
- 12:00pm., phone (617) 253-1325, email here. If you have any problems with
either, please see Karen Kohl.
